This all leads up to where we are with FastPass today. Even before the COVID-19 closure Disneyland was experimenting with the Disneyland MaxPass system to allow guests to make return times from their phones. With the advent of the smartphone, Disney introduced new abilities to make FastPass return times directly from the smartphone. Each of these Disney FastPass services was free. There were various versions of the Disney FastPass service including the FastPass+ service at Walt Disney World which gave guests the ability to make FastPass return times in advance of their trip. Guest satisfaction went up because people could spend more enjoying the parks and less time in line. The new system allowed guests to “reserve” a spot at a popular attraction and then enjoy other experiences at the theme parks while waiting for their return window. Guests would then return to the attraction at some point during that window and access a shorter line for the attraction. Guests could go to an attraction and pull a paper ticket or FastPass that would list times for an hour return window.
